In memory of Sue Powell

Sue Powell

We're very sad to share the news that Sue Powell, one of our lead trainers for Firework, passed away on Monday 28th December 2020.

Sue was battling abdominal cancer and, despite travelling to France for pioneering surgery, she was unfortunately unable to overcome it.

Sue was one of the first coaches to be trained as a Firework coach in 2005. We then recruited her to become co-facilitator for the Firework training with Michelle Bayley very soon after.

This is what Michelle says:

"When Sue and I first met we were assisting a training course and she quietly told me that her ambition was to be at the front of the room, delivering the training. She obviously went on to achieve that particular goal and she was amazingly good at it – touching the lives of so many people. She was endlessly curious, never presumed, and always wanted people to recognise their own ability to change and to help others to change.

"I learnt so much from working alongside Sue, and I was amazed at her professionalism when we ran the first virtual Firework training last year. Despite her illness, she was every bit as present as she’d been when she was well."

Throughout her time with us, Sue was an extremely competent trainer: super sharp, witty, and always there to contribute new ideas and improvements to what we were doing.

Most importantly perhaps, Sue lived her life in service to others. Her coaching and training work was a vehicle for the purpose she held as so important for her – and the numerous comments we've received from Firework coaches about the impact she'd had on them is testament to that.

Sue's passing leaves a huge gap in our Firework community.

There's a post on her company's LinkedIn page about her, where you can leave a comment.

We will miss you, Sue. You have a fantastic legacy.

Richard, Marianne, Michelle and the Firework team.
